VISITING
Lochaber
Outdoor Capital of the UK
Lochaber stretches from the shadow of Ben Nevis to sheltered lochs and rugged mountains. It’s a landscape of ridges, glens, lochs and sea. It’s a year-round playground for walking, climbing, biking and kayaking, with trails ranging from gentle glen strolls to challenging Munros. Ride the Jacobite steam train over the famous viaduct, watch eagles above the lochs and stop at village cafés or pubs for seafood and Gaelic stories. Fort William and nearby villages offer practical hubs with transport links, food and outdoor gear shops and guides. Making it easy to step straight into the Highlands.

VISITING
Skye, Raasay & Lochalsh
Salt-scented winds, basalt ridges and crofting communities define Skye, Raasay and Lochalsh. Dramatic geology – the Cuillin ridge, Old Man of Storr and Fairy Pools – meets quiet lochs and sheltered beaches. Plan days around scenic drives, the Kyle Line rail, a short trip over the bridge to Skye or a ferry to Raasay. Hikes, wildlife-watching, boat trips and excellent seafood in village inns anchor any stay. Weather shifts quickly; late spring to early autumn offers long days and calmer seas, but pack waterproofs and repellent. Gaelic culture, crofting life and clear night skies reward those who slow down and explore on foot.
VISITING
Oban
Set on a sheltered bay on Scotland’s west coast, Oban harbour is the gateway to the Inner Hebrides. Ferries depart for Mull, Iona and beyond, making it an ideal base for island hopping. Stroll the waterfront, tour the local distillery, then climb McCaig’s Tower for sweeping views. Take wildlife cruises, sea-kayaking trips or enjoy a coastal walk at Ganavan Sands. Compact and easy to explore on foot, Oban is busiest in summer. Book ahead. But with its dramatic light, simple seafood and a direct rail link to the central belt, it rewards a visit in any season.

VISITING
Wester Ross
Wester Ross is a Highland coast of jagged mountains, glassy lochs and windswept beaches. Torridon’s sandstone peaks, hidden sea lochs and small harbours with whitewashed cottages set the scene. Spend days hillwalking, watching otters and seals, or driving slowly through crofting townships and wild landscapes. Practical and welcoming, the area suits both long hikes and gentle seaside strolls—bring waterproofs, take your time on single-track roads and enjoy fresh seafood in village cafés. Clear skies reveal vast stars, and shifting weather brings new colours. Wester Ross rewards curiosity and unhurried exploration.
